The origins of the laboratory of plasma physics are connected with the laboratory of thin-filmed materials science that has been a part of the Engineering Centre «Plasmoteg» (established in 1990, since 2003 – Scientific engineering center «Plasmoteg» of PTI NAS of Belarus).

In 2013 the laboratory became a part of the Institute as a research unit after the «Plasmoteg» abolition. In 2014 it became part of the Research and Development Center of Electron-beam technologies and Plasma Physics and was renamed into the Laboratory of Plasma Physics.
LABORATORY ACTIVITIES
MAJOR FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH
Physics and the technology of thin films and coatings;
Theory, methods and methods for obtaining diamond-like multicomponent and multilayer coatings;
Spectroscopic and probe diagnostics of heterogeneous plasma flows;
Creation of new thin-film materials for elements and devices of technical and medical and biological purposes.
APPLIED RESEARCH
Development of technological bases for obtaining new materials and coatings based on metals and carbon using vacuum plasma methods for increasing operating characteristics of the parts for machines and mechanisms, machining tools, medical products;
Development and modernization of the equipment for coating deposition;
Formation of radar absorbent and bio-protective coatings on textile materials;
Physical and chemical processes of electrolytic-plasma polishing and electrochemical oxidation of non-ferrous and ferrous metals.
