On October 3-5, the XV international scientific and technical conference “Modern methods and technologies for creating and processing materials” was held at the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The event was attended by more than 100 scientists and specialists from Belarus, Russia and China: representatives of research organizations, higher education institutions, and industrial enterprises.

The conference was opened by the director of the institute, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Vitali Zaleski, who in his welcoming speech noted the relevance of the topics of the reports being presented and wished the participants fruitful work.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Academician Sergei Chizhik addressed the participants and guests with a welcoming speech, who congratulated everyone present on the start of work and wished everyone success in their research and scientific activities.

During the plenary session, four reports were presented in the field of the formation of multicomponent coatings, the development and application of plasma sources of electrons and planar magnetrons, and plasma-chemical modification of materials.

The work of the conference continued in three areas: technologies and equipment for mechanical and physical-technical processing; new materials; thin film materials science and functional coatings. As part of the conference, a round table was held on the topic “Problematic issues in the use of new materials and technologies in industry.”
A significant volume of communications has been made in the field of surface engineering, beam and plasma technologies, the creation of special alloys, composite and ceramic materials. A number of reports devoted to the study of ways to increase the durability of cutting tools aroused interest. Messages concerning the processing of surface layers of parts and materials using laser radiation, ion-plasma nitriding, and magnetic pulse processing have become relevant and continue to arouse the interest of scientists.

The plenary session, dedicated to summing up and closing the conference, traditionally ended with the awarding of the winners of the “Best Report” and “Best Report by a Young Scientist” competition.
