The laboratory was established in 1947. It is one of the oldest in the National Academy of Sciences which has retained its original name
Laboratory Heads
At the first stage of the laboratory development, the scientific basis of the technologies for electroerosive way of surface formation in parts and tools, electroerosive hardening and deposition of thick-layer coatings; ion-plasma coating formation have been created, the migration theory of electrical erosion has been offered, its theoretical and experimental validation has been recognized by the world scientific community
Since 2000, the main activity of the laboratory is connected with research and development in the field of electronic-ion-plasma treatment of the materials
The following scientific and technological basis have been developed
The concept for the development of physical and technological processes of electron-beam treatment has been developed. It is based on physical and mathematical models and experimental data collection on the influence of electron-beam effect parameters on the temperature field formation in the material by a variation of electron beam parameters (power density, exposure time and geometric characteristics of the flow)
Methods to manage formation processes of given structural and phase states and properties of surface and transition layers provide the following
The formation by ion-plasma thermochemical treatment methods with minimal power consumption, high serial stability and reproducibility of treatment results on products from steels, cast iron and titanium alloys of uniform hardened layers of a given composition, depth and hardness is reached due to applying ripple voltage with a fixed current pulse duration, presence of heat-protection system of the chamber as a working environment of N2+H2+Ar gas mixture (with the addition of methane or propane-butane, if necessary), fully automated computer control of the equipment at all stages of the process
